Portrait In Diff Pass 11/15/07 22:13 - permalink - email - category: Image
Yes, I'm in. This is what it looks like inside The Machine. It's a bit smoky, true... I'm reworking the spacetime twister for greater efficiency. Once it's oiled up and humming properly we'll be able to slide across dimensions like pixels in glass. This image was grabbed from an iSight stream passed through basic frameworks in the Pirate Video app I'm currently reworking with mattbot. The effect subpatch owes its origins to Andrew Benson's excellent ab.diffpass.jxs: differential filtering with decimation. I've killed it, Frankensteined it, killed it yet again and brought it back to life with blurring, some offset and a few other shaders on top and this is what it spits out now: gritty noir with just a wisp of lo-bit gauze. Between edits tonight, playing around with an iSight and warp effects in Apple's new Photo Booth application:
The fun part is watching your image change realtime as the warping filters work their magic. Ghost 10/1/05 14:01 - permalink - email - category: Image Roving photojournalist extraordinaire and international man-about-town Jake Appelbaum has been shooting with color infrared film for several months. He shot this image of me somewhere in San Francisco. I've compared his shots to many of the Photoshop filter techniques for simulating IR and have reached the conclusion nothing beats the real thing. My favorite aspect of infrared is the way it captures the eyes as the entrance to a dark, entirely separate dimension. Three rolls of excellent IR shots to be found in Jake's flickr gallery.
